Our member companies include contractors, engineers, manufacturers/suppliers, and other professionals focused on building municipal and housing-enabling infrastructure across the province.

Description of the Role:

In this role, you’ll liaise directly with member companies, provincial and municipal government representatives, and stakeholders to help address the public policy and government relations needs of our members. You’ll utilize your strong written communication skills to draft communiqués, including industry briefs, news releases, and other reports on a regular basis. You will also represent the Association in meetings with government and stakeholder groups, industry committees, local Association chapters, and internal boards across the province.

Your work will include:

  • Communicating and engaging with municipal and provincial policymakers, government representatives, stakeholders, and Association members regarding key industry issues and priorities;
  • Monitoring and reporting on legislative/regulatory/policy activities of key provincial government departments and municipalities;
  • Helping to develop the provincial policy agenda and priorities as well as organize advocacy activities (e.g., discussion forums and roundtables, campaigns, committees, etc.)
  • Managing select internal committees, representing the Association on outward-facing committees, and establishing a reporting structure to the Board of Directors;
  • Creating and preparing written materials (e.g., legislative and regulatory submissions, industry articles, social media posts, comments, letters of support, reports, etc.); and,
  • Traveling across the GTA and surrounding areas in Ontario as needed for key events.

You are a self-starter and confident in offering your opinions and perspective. You will help drive the Association’s broad goals forward. You are flexible and willing to contribute what is needed in a small office, including at the Association-hosted events. Some limited travel (5%), mostly within province, is required around Association events and speaking engagements.

Working with the Association:

We are service-oriented and passionate about meeting our members’ needs. Our team is also learning-oriented, open to change, and enjoys the variety in the work that we do. This is a full-time, on-site, permanent position working out of our Mississauga office (four-days in office, one at home each week). This position offers competitive annual salary and benefits commensurate with experience, including a comprehensive medical benefits package, three weeks of paid vacation time, and other incentives. Our office hours are flexible. At times, you’ll be required to attend meetings or other events occurring outside of your regular working hours.

Qualifications:

  • Policy, advocacy, communications, public administration or public affairs experience.
  • Experience working in or with government.
  • Ability to grow as a member of a small team in a fast-moving environment, while demonstrating strong judgement. Ability to think, plan, and execute with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging public policy trends related to infrastructure an asset.
  • Experience drafting and presenting industry briefs, position statements and reports.
  • Experience with or understanding of the role of industry in advocating for change would be an asset.

If this sounds like you and you’re ready to use your policy and government relations experience to align our strategies with our member needs, we can’t wait to hear from you.
